Like most other Scottish schools pupils come from primary school and continue their broad general education of 'Curriculum for Excellence'. In S1 and S2 a wide range of subjects is followed by nearly all with only modern languages chosen at this stage.

S3 is the final year of broad general education for most learners where a variety of courses are available to allow some personalisation and choice.

In S4, S5 and S6 or 'senior phase' the emphasis is on external qualifications or wider achievement recognition.
