National 5

National 5 requires pupils to pass 1 assessment in each skill. Pupils sit a prelim exam and an end of year exam. The end of year exam in May will assess Reading, Writing and Listening. Talking is assessed by the teacher in March and this mark will be sent to the SQA.

At National 5 level, the Added Value Unit is the final. This comprises of: Paper 1, Reading and Writing worth 30 marks, paper 2, Listening worth 20 marks and Talking worth 30 marks.

In S4, pupils develop their Reading, Talking, Listening and Writing skills as well as their knowledge and understanding of the language and of the countries where the language is spoken through the contexts of Society, Culture, Learning and Employability.
