National 5 English Exam – Thursday 5th May 2016 – 1pm

Higher English Exam – Thursday 5th May 2016 – 9am

Mrs J. Maylin (PT)

Favourite character: Maximus from ‘Gladiator’

Favourite books: ‘The Bronze Horseman’ by Paullina Simmons or ‘Persuasion’ by Jane Austen

Favourite films: At the moment, The Batman trilogy but this changes often, as cliche as it is ‘Dead Poets Society’ is up there and also ‘Legends of the Fall’.

Interesting/ unusual fact: I was once chased by a hippo (true story!! horrible)

Why I teach English: It is the best job in the world! Every day is different and entertaining in its own way. I love losing myself in story or appreciating clever language so it is great to introduce this to pupils. There are few things more rewarding than when a pupil ‘gets it’ for the first time. I also understand the importance of this qualification so am honoured in helping pupils shape their future.

Ms S.  Little

Mrs Y. Mackay

Favourite characters: Donkey from ‘Shrek’ or, on a more serious note, Mariam from ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ by Khaled Hosseini

Favourite book: ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen

Favourite film: ‘Shrek’ (although I still love ‘Jungle Book’ and ‘The Lion King’)

Interesting/ unusual fact: I’ve competed in dance championships in Scotland, England, Ireland, Canada, Sweden, France and America.

Why I teach English: I’d be lousy at teaching Maths and I enjoy hearing other people’s interpretations of texts – it’s a bit like how we all see colours: how can we say the way we ‘see’ things is the right or only way…
