Developing the Young Workforce

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) and Skills Development Scotland (SDS) play an influential role in the progress of our pupils and the delivery of our Curriculum.  Here at Millurn we have a clear focus on what we want to achieve for pupils, parents and staff:

Long Term Aims:

  1. For the principles of DYW and SDS to be embedded into the curriculum and everyday practice.
  2. For staff to be aware of how to direct learning conversations to possible career opportunities/pathways/subject choices related to their subject.
  3. For parents/guardians to be aware of how to support their child best during option, further education and career choices.
  4. For pupils at Millburn Academy to develop their own skills and qualities in relation to employment/career goals/ interests and subsequently make better informed subject choices. As a result of this, pupils will leave for positive destinations at the right time in their educational journey.

We have some excellent partnerships in place supporting our provision within certain curriculum areas which has led to pupils being more informed about career based learning and, most importantly, being able to make the link of learning at school and the world of work. The partners, to name a few, range from the Royal Navy, Lifescan, the Ness and Beauly fisheries trust, Inverness Leisure, Police Scotland and BBC Alba plus many, many more.
