Higher Graphic Communication
Aims of the Course
The Course provides learners with opportunities to develop:
- Skills in graphic communication techniques, including the use of equipment, graphics materials and software.
- Creativity in the production of graphic communications to produce visual impact in meeting a specified purpose.
- Skills in evaluating the effectiveness of graphics in communicating and meeting their purpose.
- An understanding of graphic communication standards protocols and conventions, where these apply.
2D Graphic Communication (Higher)
Learners will develop their creativity and presentation skills within a 2D graphics context. It will allow learners to initiate, plan, develop and communicate ideas graphically in 2D graphics. Learners will develop skills within a 2D context, such as visual literacy, and the ability to interpret given drawings, diagrams and other graphics.
3D and Pictorial Graphic Communication (Higher)
Learners will develop their creativity and presentation skills within a 3D graphics context. It will allow learners to initiate, plan, develop and communicate ideas graphically, using 3D graphics. Learners will develop skills and attributes within a 3D graphics context, including spatial awareness, visual literacy, and the ability to interpret given drawings, diagrams and other graphics.
Pupils will be given homework at regular intervals. This homework will be related to the topic of work that they are undertaking at the time and will also act as useful revision for the final exam.
There will be four task units in class which meet the Higher outcomes. These must be passed in order to be eligible to sit the final assignment and question paper.
Assessment is in the form of an assignment given by the SQA, as well as a question paper. Each component contributes towards 50% of the overall Higher grade (A-D).
